10 Brilliant Christmas Resources for 2022

Christmas is finally here, and boy have we got a present for you. We’ve put together a ‘nice list’ of resources from across the Key Stages to spread a little Christmas cheer. 🎁🎄

And as they’re CGP+ resources, you can guarantee there’s some serious learning to do amongst all the fun. Now isn’t that jolly?

 

1. The Christmas Story (Years 1-6)

It’s the reason why we have Christmas, and we’ve got it covered. Introduce the story with this PowerPoint perfect for KS1 then see if children can put the story in order with this activity.

Or you can recap the story at KS2 with this PowerPoint and challenge children to retell the story from a character’s point of view or as a comic strip.

 

2. Christmas Around the World (Years 3-6)

Why not introduce children to some different Christmas traditions this year? You can run through some of the more interesting traditions with this PowerPoint or set children the task of researching Christmas traditions around the world for themselves (for Years 3-4 and Years 5-6).

 

3. Father Christmas and Friends Comprehension (Years 5-6)

Here in the UK, we might expect the jolly old man with the white beard and a red suit to deliver our pressies, but it’s a different story in other parts of the world. The text for this comprehension introduces children to some colourful Christmas figures from European folk stories. Perhaps they’d prefer a visit from one of these characters this year?

 

4. The Meaning of Christmas (Years 1-6)

The true meaning of Christmas can be different for everyone… which is why we have an activity to help children explore it in Years 1-2, Years 3-4 and Years 5-6.

 

5. Performing Jingle Bells (Years 5-6)

You know the tune, but can you play it? This sheet music for Jingle Bells is the perfect practice for reading music this Christmas— there’s space provided to write the letters for each musical note and three unique parts for groups to play together.

 

6. Christmas Puzzles (Years 1-2)

Can your class help Santa deliver the right presents? Challenge them with these shape properties and logic puzzles. There are also Christmas Codewords to crack for Year 1 and Year 2.

 

7. Pip the Penguin’s Game — Counting to 30 (Reception)

Children can practise counting to 30 with this fun board game. They must guide Pip to the finish, tackling slippery slopes and climbing ladders as they go. There are also challenge cards you can add into the game.

 

8. French Christmas Resources (Years 1-2)

There’s a way to sneak Christmas into every subject. Try these flashcards or this bauble-making activity to expand your class’s festive French vocabulary.

 

9. Roll a Snowman (Reception)

This is a great game to get younger children subitising the numbers shown on a dice. You can turn it into a competition by pairing players up and having them race to complete their snowmen.

 

10. Edible Tree Decorations — Fill in the Blanks (Years 3-6)

This resource is a gap-fill exercise and handy recipe in one. Once children have completed the worksheet (and their answers have been checked, just in case) they could follow the recipe to make their own decorations to hang on their tree. That’s if the decorations last that long…
