This alien-themed word sorting game is a fun way to test children's ability to recognise the graphemes 'ar', 'or', 'ur', 'oi', 'ear', 'air', 'ure' and 'er' within words. Encourage children to take turns to pick up a star card. They must read the word and decide whether it is a real word or a nonsense alien word and place it on the correct pile. This activity can be played 1:1, in pairs or in small groups.
