Use these segmenting cards to test children's understanding of segmenting, blending and phonemes. There are two different activities that can be completed with these cards: Mystery Sounds or Puppet Talk. First, test the children to choose a card from the bag without looking. Encourage them to segment the word for their other class members to guess. Once they are correct, the next player can take a turn. As an alternative, lay out the cards for the class to see and explain that the puppet is hungry but will only eat the picture cards which are sound-talked and segmented correctly. This encourages children to practise their segmenting skills.
